Health information systems in developing countries: case of African countries

Abstract Background In developing countries, health information system (HIS) is experiencing more and difficulties to produce quality data. The lack of reliable related makes it difficult develop effective policies. order understand the organization HIS in African we undertook a literature review. Methods Our study was conducted using PubMed Scopus bibliographic search engines. inclusion criteria were: (i) all articles published between 2005 2019, (ii) including their title keywords "health", "information", "systems", "system", "africa", "developing countries", "santé", "pays en développement", "Afrique", (iii) that are written English or French, (iv) which deals with organizational technical issues about countries. Results Fourteen retrieved out 2492 were included study, 13 (92.9%) qualitative. All them dealt 12 countries (100.0%) had opted for data warehouse approach improve HIS. This approach, supported by DHIS2 system, has enabled providing However, 11 (92.0%) frameworks aligned funding donors’ strategies lacked any national strategy.
